Elmer A. Struchtemeyer Elmer A. Struchtemeyer 93, a lifelong resident of the Lexington and Mayview, Missouri area passed away Monday, July 7, 2014 at the Meyer Care Center of John Knox Village where he was a resident for the past eleven months . Elmer was born March 18, 1921 near Mayview, MO to Oscar Henry and Caroline A. Starkebaum Struchtemeyer. He married Edna Anna Clara Begeman on April 13, 1942 at Mayview. Elmer was best known as the service manager for 36 years at Mason Chevrolet/ Oldsmobile Dealership in Lexington. He grew up on a farm in the Mayview area and in addition to his working on the family farm, he wired many rural homes with their first electricity. After graduating from Mayview High School he attended National School of Aeronautics in Kansas City, Missouri and upon graduating moved to California working for the Lockheed Company. Elmer became a member of the Greatest Generation in 1942. Serving in the Army Air Corp during WWII he was a crew chief for B17, B25 and B29 bomber engine maintenance. Following his service he returned to the Lexington area and began his career at Mason Chevrolet until his retirement in 1984. Elmer was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Lexington serving on numerous councils and boards. After retiring he continued a very active lifestyle volunteering to drive the Cancer Care Car taking patients to various hospitals in Kansas City. He also served as Board Chairman for the New Life Childrens Home located in the Lexington area. Elmer was a member of the American Legion. Elmer enjoyed playing golf with his sons and friends, a good game of pitch with his brother-in-laws on Sunday as well as following Royals Baseball and doing woodworking projects. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Caroline (Starkebaum) Struchtemeyer and a brother, Leonard. Elmer is survived by his wife of 72 years, Edna Ann of John Knox Village, Higginsville. Three sons, Wayne and Pat of Olathe, KS, Curtis and wife, Valerie of Ruther Glen , VA, and Glen and wife, Debra, of Pike Road, Al. Eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, a brother, Earl, two sister-in-laws, Clare Marie Werning and Grace Werning and a brother-in-law, Marty, all of Higginsville, and many nieces and nephews. Services will be10:00 A.M., Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Trinity United Church of Christ, Lexington. Visitation will be from 7-8 P.M. ,Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at the Walker Nadler Fuller Funeral Home, Lexington. (660)259-2245.
