EDGAR F. COX, JR. Edgar F. Cox, Jr., 89, died Thursday, February 26, 2015 at the Veterans Nursing Home in Cameron, MO. He was born May 7, 1925 in Lexington, MO, the son of Edgar Fleming Cox, Sr., and Theodocia Morris Cox. Edgar was a lifelong resident of Lexington, Missouri. After graduating from Lexington High School in 1943, Ed entered into the US Navy as a member of the 127th Sea Bees Battalion and served at various locations in the South Pacific during World War II. At the end of the war he was stationed for a time in Japan as a member of the U.S. Force of Occupation. Following his discharge from the Navy he attended Central Missouri State College of Warrensburg (now known as UMC) where he received a degree in Agriculture. Later he earned a degree in business from the University of Missouri in Columbia. Mr. Cox was a farm manager in Lafayette County for several years then went into business in Lexington as Cox Real Estate until he retired in 1997. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lexington. He was a member of the Elks Lodge 749 in Lexington and also a member of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Morris Cox. He is survived by seven children: Daniel Cox of El Paso, TX, Laura Emery of Webb City, MO, Andrew Cox of Tucson, AZ, Benjamin Cox of Santa Fe, NW, Amy Whaley and husband, David, of Hayward, CA, Matthew Cox of Wichita, KS and Melissa Underhill and husband, John, of Kansas City, MO. Grandsons, Eddie Cox of Las Vegas, NV, Michael Pope and wife, Mary, Smithville, MO, Nicholas Pope of Kansas City, MO and Thomas Whaley of Hayward, CA. Granddaughters: Ursula Emery Miller and husband, Paul, Joplin, MO, Ann Emery Pate of Joplin, MO and Katie Cox of Tucson, AS and by six great-grandchildren. Services will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at the Walker-Nadler-Fuller Funeral Home, Lexington, MO (660) 259-2245. Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lexington, MO with Military Rites. Visitation from 12 noon until service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.
