Douglas “Doug” Franklin Gum, 66 of Higginsville, Missouri passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, MO.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 S. 2nd St., Odessa, MO, 64076, 816-633-5524. A Celebration of Life will follow at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, November 16, 2024, at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Ronald McDonald House-Bernstein House and may be left in care of the funeral home. Doug was born on November 13, 1957, in Kansas City, MO to James and Patricia (Schwenck) Gum. He attended Odessa High School in Odessa, MO. Doug has been employed as a forklift operator for the past 27 plus years with Smurfit Westrock in Blue Springs, MO. On January 30, 2000, Doug was united in marriage to Janice Kay Schieber in Leeton, MO. He was a member of Greenton Baptist Church and was baptized in 2006. In addition to spending time with family and friends, Doug was an avid motorcycle rider, as well as an avid Chiefs Football and NASCAR Fan.
Doug is survived by his loving wife, Janice Gum of Higginsville, MO; four daughters; 11 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; one sister, Vicki Davis of Chanute, KS, and Jim Gum of Warsaw, MO; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by a brother, David Gum; and a grandchild.
