Edward John Sich, 89, of Odessa, Missouri passed away on Friday, January 18, 2013 at St. Marys Medical Center in Blue Springs, MO. Funeral Services will at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 25, 2013 at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 S. Second St., Odessa, MO, 64076, (816) 633-5524, with Reverend Larry Neil and Reverend Warren Hunting officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. www.ralphojones.com. Edward was born on September 13, 1923 in Youngstown, Ohio to George and Barbara (Bihary) Sich. He was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Youngstown. After high school he graduated from the Curtiss-Wright Technical Institute in Glendale, California. He joined the United States Army Air Corp. on March 31, 1943. He was a Flight Engineer and Gunner. While serving in World War II he earned a Purple Heart and other awards. For a period of six months was M.I.A. after his plane was shot down over Germany. On October 29, 1945 he was Honorably Discharged as a Sergeant. He retired from Commercial Motor Freight as a Truck Driver after 38 years. Edward married Norma Jean Watkins in Las Vegas, Nevada and after 67 wonderful years she preceded him in death on October 20, 2012. He attended Calvary Baptist Church in Odessa. Prior to moving to Odessa Edward and Norma lived in Youngstown, OH for over 50 years. Edward and Norma loved to travel the country. He will be greatly missed. Survivors include two children, Jeanie Hunting and husband Warren of Centerview, MO and Edward George Sich of Long Beach, California; two grandchildren, Lesley Elaine Sich and Paul Hunting; four great grandchildren, Kala Hunting, Alexis Hunting, Madison Giles and Jake Giles; In addition to his wife and parents Edward was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.
