Donald Leroy McCarty, 89, of Bates City, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Blue Springs, Missouri.
A Rosary will be recited at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, September 5, 2020 at St. George Catholic Church, 202 W. Phillips St., Odessa, MO 64076. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the church. A Mass of Christian Burial with Celebrant Bryan Amthor officiating will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the church. A Rite of Committal will follow at the Lone Jack Cemetery in Lone Jack, Missouri. Donald was born June 18, 1931 to Benjamin C. McCarty and Mildred M. (Stone) McCarty in Independence, MO. After graduating from Lone Jack High School, he was drafted in the United States Army on January 29, 1952, serving in the Korean War, and was discharged on December 12, 1953. On January 25, 1974 Donald was united in marriage to JoAnn (Martin) in Independence, MO. Donald worked as a carpenter for Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, retiring in 1990 after 30 years. After retirement, he spent time volunteering in his community, church, Knights of Columbus, and as an Alderman in Bates City for 18 years. In addition to spending time with family and friends Donald enjoyed woodworking, baseball, and being an avid sports fan.
Donald is survived by his wife of 46 years, JoAnn McCarty; a son, Steve (Kathy) McCarty of Buffalo, MO; two daughters, Patricia (John) Serrato of Independence, MO and Pamala (Jim) Goff of Oak Grove, MO; a sister, Kathleen (Ronald) Jennings of Independence, MO; a brother, Charles (Laura) McCarty of Albuquerque, NM; four stepchildren, Bob Onka and Deborah (Greg) Thompson both of Bates City, MO; Bill Onka of Independence, MO and Diana (Barry) Reicher of Nixa, MO; 18 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, a brother David McCarty, a sister Louise Leibold and a son Dennis McCarty.
