Donald Wesley Gash, Sr. 81, of Wellington, passed away December 1, 2018 at Lafayette Regional Health Center, Lexington. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 8, 2018 at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 South Second Street, Odessa at 11:00 am. Visitation will also be on Saturday at the funeral home from 10:00 until 11:00 am. Burial will be in the Higginsville City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nations Fabry Disease Foundation.
Don was born July 24, 1937 in Higginsville to Clarence Jesse and Juanita Iola (Deatherage) Gash. He graduated from Higginsville High School with the class of 1955. He married Shirley Ann Carter on June 7, 1958. She preceded him in death May 4, 2008. Don worked as an auto mechanic, airline mechanic, in construction and as a redimix driver for Green Quarries in Lexington. He retired from Lake City Arsenal in 1992 after 29 years as a foreman of mechanics in machinery. He was a member of Teamsters Local #541, IAM and Steelworkers, AARP and the NRA. He shot in the Lake City Trap Club from 1982 until 1992. Besides hunting all Missouri small and large game, he was an avid fisherman of the Missouri river, small streams and lakes of Missouri, as well as off the coast of Hawaii and several large lakes in Canada and the state of Minnesota.
Don is survived by his children, Donnie Gash, Jr. of Odessa, Timothy Gash of Kansas City and Julia Clay and husband Kelly of Lexington; grandchildren, Joshua Collom, Jennifer Sapp, William Gash, Lauren Gash, Kelly Clay, Jr. and Jessie Gash; 13 great grandchildren; and a sister Linda Todson and husband Pete of Melbourne, Florida. Pall bearers will be Joshua Collom, Kelly Clay, Jr., William Gash, Michael Sapp, Justin Towne, Michael Kelly, David Covington and Ken Gumbiner.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; daughter in law, Martha Gash; and brothers, Everett Gash and Tommy Gash.
