Donald Wayne Cone, Sr.

May 11, 1949 — July 4, 2023

Bates City, Missouri

Donald W Cone Sr, 74, passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at his home in Bates City, MO. Don was born in Fayette, MO to William and Emma Lee Cone. Immediately after graduating high school, Don enlisted in the Army and fought in Vietnam. After his military service Don used his skills and innate abilities to construct homes, where there was no part of the process he was unable to do.

Those who knew Don would say he was a 'tell-it-like-it-is' person who would give you his unbiased opinion. However, many also had the privilege of experiencing his tender, thoughtful, and loving side. Don was kind and generous with his time. He was always thinking up a new project (he could build just about anything) to work on and it was typical for others to come alongside him, to learn from him and share in the satisfaction.  Don was also widely known for his corny “Cone jokes” and making people smile.

Don and Diane (née Reinhart) married in 2011 in Independence, MO. The couple resided in Bates City, where Don’s talents in carpentry intertwined with Diane’s green thumb and attention to detail created a peaceful oasis that they enjoyed together and was often shared with family and friends.

Don is survived by his wife, Diane, children Johnny [Lauren], Jamie [Mike], and Donny; additional children: Ron [Dee], Melissa [Jim], Matt [Sarah], 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, brothers Bobby and Billy, and “Sissy” Denise. He was preceded in death by his parents.

There will be a celebration of life at Cross Creek Baptist Church,1050 SW 15th St, Oak Grove, MO 64075, at 2pm Sunday, July 16th, followed by a ceremony at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Don’s memory to Cross Creek Baptist Church or Crossroads Hospice Charitable Foundation.

Don is missed dearly, but we rejoice that he is made whole again and is with our Father in Heaven.
