Bette Jane Bartels

Bette J. Bartels, 86, of (Mayview) Higginsville, Missouri died Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at St. Mary's Manor in Blue Springs. Memorial Services will be held at 1:00p.m., Saturday, March 3, 2012 at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 S. Second St., Odessa, MO, 64076, (816) 633-5524. Memorials are suggested to the Mayview First Baptist Church. The family will hold a private inurnment at a later date. She was born October 25, 1925 in rural Odessa. She graduated from Odessa Highs School in 1942. She married Joe Bartels on May 19, 1946 and they were married fifty-six years until his death on March 10, 2012. She was preceded in death by her parents, Owen A. and Myrtle Scott, a brother, Owen Dale Scott and her grandparents Mr. & Mrs. H.B Day. She was a member of the Mayview Baptist Church. Bette served as leader of Fortyville 4-H club and was involved with her church and Sunday school. She lived on a farm for most of her life but worked outside the home at the Odessa Shoe Factory, Higginsville Shoe Factory, Western Electric and for many years until retirement as a production worker and stores manager at the Lake City Arsenal plant. Following her husband's death she lived alone on the farm with her Sometimes Good Dog Digger. She is survived by a son, Steven S. Bartels of Overland Park, Kansas; three grandchildren, Hayley Bartels, Columbia Missouri; Whitney Bartels, Dallas Texas and Nick Bartels, Columbia Missouri; a very special sister-in-law, Juanita Whitworth Scott, nieces and nephews; along with her many friends, coworkers, nurses aides and acquaintances whose friendship she cherished. For those who knew her she was a special person, a great listener and a loyal friend.
