Charlotte Laughlin, 94 former resident of Odessa, Missouri passed away on Monday, October 6, 2014 at New Mark Care Center in Kansas City, MO.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday October 10, 2014 at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 S. 2nd St., Odessa, MO, 64076, 816-633-5524 with Reverend Terry Hodges officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home on Friday. Burial will be in the Greenton Cemetery. Born August 4, 1920 in Dadeville, MO. Charlotte was the only daughter of William Emis and Elizabeth (Sydow) Emis. She graduated from Odessa High School in 1937. In 1938 she married Dale Laughlin, who preceded her in death in 1999. They had three children, two who also preceded her in death: William Laughlin and Luana Laughlin Dalton.
The Odessa School District was a big part of Charlotte’s life. She served twenty-five years as secretary to the superintendents of school and board education before her retirement in 1974. The administration building was dedicated in her honor when she retired. She was also honored to be inducted into the Odessa Hall of Fame. After retirement she worked in the home as a tax preparer.
She was an active member of the First Baptist Church and very active in other community groups. She was honored with the AARP community service award in 1988.
She leaves behind her daughter, Elizabeth Lenhert (Steve), Parkville, MO., eight grandchildren: Eric Lenhert (Eloise), Kodiak, Alaska; Lance Laughlin (Jane), Odessa; Robert Dalton (Dorie), Golden, CO.; Clayton Lenhert (Laura), Parkville; Tim Laughlin (Kim), Prairie Village KS.; Gretchen Lenhert Rouse (David), Parkville; Jacob and Ashley Laughlin, daughter-in-law Linda Laughlin, Denton, TX; son-in-law Jim Dalton (Esther), Jeff City; twelve great-grandchildren and one brother Lewis Emis (Lois), TX.
