Carleton LeRoy Coon

Carleton LeRoy Coon, (The Radiator Man), 81, of Odessa, Missouri passed away on Monday, November 03, 2014 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Blue Springs, MO surrounded by family.
Carl was born in Wichita, Kansas, the youngest of 13 children. He attended the Methodist Church as a child. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Korean War for 17 months. On December 4, 1954 he married Shirley Ann Morgan in Clinton, MO. Carl worked for several radiator shops in the area, Matzl Radiator Shop, Schneider’s Bailey and NTA Fleet Services. Carl also owned two shops in Independence and Blue Springs. He worked on radiators from 1959 until October 30, 2014. Carl was a sports fanatic; he loved the KC Royals and KC Chiefs. He also liked to go bowling and spent most of 1960 in bowling alleys. In 1970 Carl belonged to the Independence, Sugar Creek CB Radio Club. He was a past member of the independence VFW and American Legion. Carl and Shirley lived in Kansas City and Independence from 1953 to 1983. In 1983 they moved to Odessa, MO to enjoy the country life, yard work, cars, working in his garage and going to auctions.
In addition to his wife, Shirley of 59 years, Carl is survived by a son, Christopher Lee Coon and wife Krystal Erin Coon of Odessa, MO; grandsons, Deric Lee Coon and Cayden Lee Coon, both of the home; granddaughters, Trystyn Cooper, of the home and Brianna Vandawalker of Liberty, MO; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Brittianee Coon, and 12 siblings.
