Betty Jean Murry

Betty Jean (Griffey) Murry, 92 of Odessa, Missouri passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at home surrounded by family.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Friday, January 3, 2025, at Calvary Baptist Church, 7995 Outer Rd., Odessa, MO, 64076. A funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO. Betty was born on May 25, 1932, in Odessa, MO to Louis Madison and Goldie (Smith) Griffey. She graduated from Odessa High School. On October 11, 1953, Betty was united in marriage to Kenneth Ray Murry in Odessa. He preceded her in death on April 10, 2016. Betty was a homemaker and worked for several years as a cook in the cafeteria for the Odessa School District. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and served on the kitchen committee. In addition to spending time with family and friends, Betty enjoyed gardening, cooking, and traveling. 

Survivors include two daughters, Linda (Stephen) Durrill of Odessa, MO and Kathy (John) Friend of Blue Springs, MO; five grandchildren, Jeremy (Christina) Durrill of Odessa, MO, Joshua (Kelly) Durrill of Stoutland, MO, Jennifer Friend of Blue Springs, MO, Rachael (Eben) Sanchez of Kansas City, MO, and Katie Friend of Kansas City, MO; nine great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. 

In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Dennis; and two brothers, Loyd Griffey and Charles W. Griffey.
