Bernice Sarah Welcher

Bernice S. Welcher, 83, of Kansas City, MO passed away Monday, December 9, 2013 at Truman Medical Center Lakewood. Bernice S. Horton was born September 12, 1930 in rural Lafayette County to Eugene Horton and Cornelia Sarah Lewis Horton. She married Leslie Paul Welcher on February 18, 1950 in Lexington. He preceded her in death April 12, 1996. Bernice was a member of Blue Ridge Methodist Church in Kansas City, MO. She worked for J.C. Penney in the bookkeeping department and was a member of the V.F.W. Womens Auxiliary. Bernice is survived by two children: Gary Welcher and wife Sandra, Raytown, MO and Paula Welcher, Kansas City, MO. A brother Gilbert Hughes of Maryville, MO. There are 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, her step-father, Leonard Hughes, brothers, Robert Horton and Richard Horton and a sister, Lucille Fields. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 14, 2013 at the Walker-Nadler-Fuller Funeral Home in Lexington, MO. Burial in Lexington Memory Gardens. Visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to the Lexington V.F.W. Post 4052.
