Barbara Jean (Cook) Coats, 81 of Olathe, Kansas formerly of Odessa, Missouri passed away on Monday September 25, 2017 at the Olathe Hospice House in Olathe, KS.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., October 7, 2017 at the Calvary Baptist Church, 7995 Outer Rd., Odessa, MO 64076. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Saturday October 7, 2017 at the church. Inurnment will follow at the Odessa Cemetery. Barbara was born on August 18, 1936 in Garnett, Kansas to James and Mildred (Johnson) Cook. She graduated as the Salutatorian in 1954 from Princeton High School in Princeton, KS. She was most recently a member of the Olathe First Baptist Church in Olathe, KS. Barbara enjoyed sewing and baking, watching grandchildren play sports and activities, and traveling to her daughter’s home for extended visits. She loved watching the Chiefs, Royals and the KU Jayhawks and also playing cards, Bingo, and Farkle. She truly loved being a Mother and Grandma.
Survivors include two children, Kenneth “Kenny” Coats and significant other Debie of Lake Orion, Michigan and Karen Johnson and husband Kevin of Omaha, Nebraska; six grandchildren, Chad Johnson of Iowa, Adam and Blake Johnson of Colorado, Brandon Coats and wife Jennifer of Texas and Ashton and Cameron Coats; two great grandchildren, Avery and Addison Coats.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents.
