Arthur Verlin Baker, 94, of Oak Grove, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at the Shangri-LA Rehab and Living Center in Blue Springs, MO.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, March 17, 2014 at the Odessa Restoration Branch with Elder Glen Eggert officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Odessa Restoration Branch. Burial will be in the Mound Grove Cemetery in Independence, MO. Arthur was born on March 23, 1920 in Fargo, North Dakota to William Horace and Martha (Van Arsdale) Baker. On November 9, 1941 he was united in marriage to Meleta May (Moorman) Baker. Arthur retired as a pipefitter from the Natkin and Company in Kansas City, MO. He was a member of the Odessa Restoration Branch. Arthur was a member of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Union Local 533 in Kansas City, MO. In his spare time he enjoyed golfing, wood working and welding projects. Arthur and Meleta loved to travel Europe and every winter they would go to Fort Meyers Beach, Florida. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include four children, Arthur Eugene Baker and wife Nancy of Edwards, MO, Janet Cook and husband Rex of Odessa, MO, Judy Smith of Grain Valley, MO formerly of Odessa, MO and Gary Baker and wife Janice of Warrensburg, MO; 13 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Arthur was preceded in death by three brothers, Lawrence, Ray and Wilbert Baker; and three sisters, Jessie Goold, Alice Kester and Betty Williams.
