Alonzo (Lonnie) Best Christy, 94, of Odessa, Missouri passed away Saturday, May 17, 2014 at the VITAS Hospice House in Kansas City, MO.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at the First Christian Church in Odessa, MO with Dave Corder officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at the church. Burial will be in the Greenton Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Show Me Christian Youth Home, First Christian Church or VITAS Hospice. Lonnie was born on October 3, 1919 in Odessa, MO to William Luther & Edith Elizabeth (Best) Christy. He graduated from Bates City High School in 1937. Lonnie was a veteran of the United States Army and served in World War II. On April 17, 1943 he was united in marriage to Ruth (Stephenson) Christy in Independence, MO. She preceded him in death on October 16, 2000. For 40 years Lonnie and Ruth farmed on the family farm. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include two children, Patricia Doak of Raymore, MO and Larry Christy and wife Sharron of Odessa, MO; three grandchildren, Valerie Bedell and husband Jason of Peculiar, MO, Angela Fine and husband Clinton of Platte City, MO and Suzanne Rudder and husband George of Kearney, MO; eight great grandchildren, Kenneth Bias III, Michael Bias, Lane Bedell, Collin, Haley and Mason Rudder, Faith and Eden Fine; a special friend Norene Wilson; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Lonnie was preceded in death by three brothers, Orval, Everett and Melvin Christy; and three sisters, Myrtle Mabry, Opal Welpman and Willa Belle Campbell
