Alice Catherine (Beretta) Buchanan Summerlin, 92 of Lexington, Missouri, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2024, at her residence surrounded by her family.
Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at Walker-Nadler-Fuller Funeral Home, 1720 S. St., Lexington, Mo. Visitation will follow from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be held at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at the funeral home. Rite of Committal will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Lexington. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society and may be left in care of the funeral home. Alice was born December 4, 1931, in Lexington, Missouri, to John and Josephine (Gasperino) Beretta. She graduated from Lexington High School in 1950. Shortly after graduating high school, Alice was united in marriage to John Buchanan. He preceded her in death on August 18, 2001. She then married James Summerlin on October 4, 2009. Alice tended and cared for the home the first twelve years, then worked for Whitaker Cable as a manufacturing manager for over 10 years. She was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Altar Society and card club. Alice spent the younger years enjoying plants and gardening.
As a snowbird, she relished traveling to Port Isabella, Texas, immersing herself in the warm climates and enjoying the thrill of fishing, a passion she shared by out fishing her sons. Along with spending time with family and friends, Alice enjoyed reading a good book and playing cards.
Alice is survived by her husband, James Lee Summerlin of Lexington, MO; three children, Stephen (Joyce) Buchanan of Millstead, IL Brenda (Roger) Dady of Lexington, MO and Gary Buchanan of Ashland, NE; four bonus children, AL (Susan) Summerlin of Kansas City, MO, Rita Summerlin of Prairie Village, KS, Johnnie (Mark Segars) Summerlin of Boulder, CO, and Jim (Teri) Summerlin of Sand Springs, OK; ten grandchildren, Andrea, Candice, Jodie, Carly, Sierra, Skyler, Alyse, Brett, Shayde, and Starr, five bonus grandchildren, Caitlin, Jacob, Sydney, Lucas and Elise, 19 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Along with both her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her first husband, John Buchanan Sr., two children, John R. Buchanan Jr., and Karen Buchanan; two sisters, Caroline Crowe and Mary Grechus; and four brothers, Joseph, Johnny, Rudy, and Gilbert Beretta.
