Alan Irl O'Brien

Alan Irl O’Brien, 83, of Odessa, Missouri passed away Thursday, June 1, 2023, surrounded by his family.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 9, 2023, at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 S. 2^nd St., Odessa, MO, 64076, 816-633-5524.  A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 9, 2023, at the funeral home.  Interment will be at Odessa Cemetery in Odessa, MO. Alan was born August 27, 1939, in Golden City, MO, to William Leslie and Sarah Alice Frances (Aton) O’Brien. He graduated from Lockwood High School in 1958. Alan was an assembly line worker for MHC Kenworth-Kansas City for 30 plus years, then worked at the Space Center Kanas City Inc. in Independence, MO. Alan was united in marriage to Phyllis Eileen (Hughes) O’Brien on August 28, 1960, in Golden City, Missouri. He formally attended the First Baptist Church in Golden City, MO. Alan was a member of the Teamsters. Along with spending time with his family, Alan enjoyed collecting tractors, farming, bird watching, and especially taking his grandchildren to tractor pulls.

Alan is survived by his wife, Phyllis O’Brien; one son, Darrel O’Brien of Odessa, MO; four grandchildren, Joseph O’Brien, Christopher O’Brien, Seth Thomas, and Dustin Thomas; one sister Mary Alice Jenkins; and many nieces, nephew, relative, and friends.  

Alan was preceded by both of his parents, two children, Russell Irl O’Brien and Jeanette Lee (O’Brien) Thomas; three brothers, Oren Leslie O’Brien, Richard Wayne O’Brien, and Charles Franklin O’Brien, and one sister, Virginia Rose Litle.
