Alan Welton Amos

Alan “Doc” Welton Amos, 86, of Odessa, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at the John Knox Village Hospice in Lee’s Summit, MO.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 30, 2016 at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 S. 2nd St., Odessa, MO, 64076, 816-633-5524. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial with Military Rites will be in the Odessa Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Odessa VFW Post 5675. Doc was born on June 13, 1929 in Odessa, MO to Darwin Welton and Laura (Heurcamp) Amos. He graduated from Odessa High School in 1947. Doc was a Veteran of the United States Navy and served in the Korean War. He earned the National Defense, United Nations, Korean Service, China Service and the Good Conduct Medals. He was a member of the Odessa VFW Post 5675. He retired on March 31, 1979 from General Motors. Doc also farmed for many years and did custom farming for over 60 years. He was a member of the Salem United Church of Christ in Higginsville, MO. In addition to spending time with his family he enjoyed going to Thompson’s formerly Morgan’s for coffee every day. He was a great neighbor and friend to all and will always be remembered for going above and beyond to help out.

Survivors include six children, Karla Amos of Las Vegas, Nevada, Von Amos and wife Tracy of Springfield, Virginia, Rick Amos of Odessa, MO, Ralph Amos and wife Kim of Grain Valley, MO, Austin Amos and wife Carla of Lake St. Louis, MO and Paul Amos and wife Susan of Warren, Connecticut; 13 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; a sister, Melba Strothmann of Odessa, MO; and 2 nephews.

In addition to his parents, Doc was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Cassandra Amos and Joshua Amos; and a sister, Martha Amos.

Pallbearers: Von Amos, Rick Amos, Ralph Amos, Austin Amos, Paul Amos and Ben Strothmann.
